Art is my passion, my kids are my life.

May 30, 2017

I've been an artist since almost before I could talk. My grandmother put my first paintbrush in my hands when I was four years old. I've tried just about every traditional medium out there, my only aversion being "fiber arts". Or as I like to call it String Theory Art. Counting stitches is just too much like math class for me.

I put away all of the messy stuff when my first son was born, intending to pull everything back out when he was old enough to pick up a brush like I did. That didn't happen, as his sister came along 21 months later. Then the twins were born 27 months after that and the youngest 2 and 1/2 years after that. So having infants/toddlers in the house for a solid ten years did not allow for much painting.

Instead I turned to the digital arts. Using online tutorials and connecting with some wonderful people in the CGI community, I taught myself to use Photoshop and DAZ Studio. I also began playing with programs like Ultra Fractal and Sculptris.

In 2007 opened my own online shop, selling everything from t-shirts to wedding invitations. Gothic Toggs and all of the subsidiaries thereof, have taken most of my time and energy since. Creating art for the commercial market, is ... a unique challenge. You have to learn to follow trends, and it becomes a much more design based rather than a natural creative process.

This year I made a promise to myself to pick up my paintbrushes again. I didn't realize how much I missed it. I began painting like a mad woman. It didn't matter what the subject matter was, I just had to paint. Until now, I feel that I have a direction and style that really represents ME. So Eyelyss Studios was born. A place for my art that will hopefully go beyond what the eye sees on the surface. There is a flow to my work, I am not sure exactly where it comes from, if I had to describe it, I would have to call it "Organic Art". I never know until I pick up the brush or pencil what is going to appear.

Hopefully my new direction will give me a way to express my truly artistic side more than commercial art has allowed me to and will give me a way to connect on a more personal level with the rest of the world.

If you've made through this post, thank you for hanging around. I do have a tendency to wax poetic some days, and I am a queen at run on sentences. Words are another art form after all.

Until next time,

Be nice to each other♥
